Donation of Geoscientific Modeling Software Strengthens Academic and Student Capabilities at IER

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), through the Institute of Renewable Energies (IER), has received a significant software donation valued at over three million US dollars from the international company PE Limited (formerly Petroleum Experts, Inc.).

Thanks to this educational license agreement, the IER will have free access until December 2025 to a suite of advanced geological and geomechanical modeling tools, including programs such as:

- MOVE (with modules such as 2D/3D Kinematic Modelling, Geomechanical Modelling, Fracture Modelling, among others)
- MOVE links for platforms such as Petrel, OpenWorks, and GST
- License protection via HARDLOCK system

This software suite is widely recognized in the energy and geoscience industries for its ability to model complex geological structures, analyze tectonic stresses, and simulate fracturing scenarios, among other high-level functionalities.

UNAM, through the IER, extends its sincere gratitude to PE Limited for this meaningful contribution, which not only strengthens the Institute’s academic infrastructure but also enhances the training of professionals with strong capabilities for developing projects in renewable energy, geosciences, and applied engineering.

This kind of collaboration with international industry represents another step toward consolidating the Institute of Renewable Energies at UNAM as a global scientific leader.
